Different Styles and Types of Outdoor Patio Furniture

With the presence of outdoor living area there comes the necessity to furnish it with appropriate outdoor furniture. Outdoor patio furniture takes different types, styles, patterns and designs that suit every individual’s tastes and needs.

One of the most common outdoor patio furniture is the Adirondack. Otherwise known as the Musoka, this type of chair is the most favored in rural outdoor settings. Adirondack chair is generally associated with the Great Camps within Adirondack Mountains in New York.

Today, the Adirondack chair takes many styles but the original chair was made with eleven pieces of wood which is cut from a single board. Its straight back and seat were set at a slant to help the person using it to sit better on the steep inclines of the area. Its wide armrest became its notable feature.

Benches are another popular item in outdoor patio furniture. It is a piece of furniture that offers seat to several persons. Benches are mostly made of wood, but nowadays, there can also be found pieces which are made of synthetic materials. Basic benches have a seat, backrest and legs and many have also arm rests.

On the other hand, lounge chairs offer comfort to its enthusiasts when chosen carefully. The typical lounge chair known as chaise lounge is an upholstered couch that takes the shape of a chair, long enough to support the legs. While a settee is an upholstered seat with back and arms. Settees are primarily designed to accommodate two or more people in either a reclining or sitting position. Its original design dating back to 17th century in Europe, have sides which allows the piece to be converted into a bed. Through the years, some variation of backrests and armrests constantly appeared, and the settee became part of a matched set of chairs.
Accordingly, patio chairs are basically designed to meet larger array of outdoor living desires. It can be categorized as dining chair or casual chair. It is notable that the dining chair takes the form of a more upright backrest which allows sitting a dinner table more comfortable. The casual style of chair on the other hand, has a not quite upright backrest, which is more suited to be used around a coffee table.
Glider is outdoor patio furniture that is of the same kind as the rocking chair. It moves as a swing seat where the whole frame is composed of a seat attached to its base through a double-rocker four bar linkage. Glider swings back and forth like the rocking-chair due to the non-parallel suspension arms of the linkage.
Porch swings are also popular outdoor patio furniture that takes many types and styles. The most basic style of porch swing has the backrest slats inclined vertically or horizontally. Like with most of the other patio furniture, porch swings can be made of various types of material by which wood and aluminum is very common. Porch swings can either be attached to any sturdy structure like patio covers and ceilings. In addition, stands that can also be bought together with the swing that permits the set up of the furniture in any location. But then swings that are mounted on a stand have a shorter swing path, which makes it a little faster.
